Grand Hideaway

If you are looking for the ultimate in a greenhouse experience in your own backyard, you will probably look hard at National's Grand Hideaway series.  For starters, they are made in America.  That says so much in one little sentence.  We do have pride in our ability to make the ultimate greenhouse on our own shores.  Add into that the reduced carbon foot print which gives us something else to feel good about.

But lets face facts.  The only way to get a truly quality greenhouse that is engineered to meet your local building codes is with professional builders who speak the same language as the local officials in your county building offices.  National works hand in hand with you to meet your personal needs and goals in a greenhouse as well.

It's hard to know what to consider first when trying to choose a greenhouse.  A lot depends on what you want it to do for you and for your lifestyle.  If you need help with this, check out the "Greenhouse Buying Guide".  You will find it in our drop down menu to the left.  If you have already decided you want a substantial greenhouse you will be happy with for the rest of your life, and are looking at the Grand Hideaways, you will need to decide between a lean-to or free standing model.  There are some real advantages to having a greenhouse attached to your home.  It can create an observatory style instantly.  It will impact how you go about your every day routine.  If nothing else, you will wake up in the morning thinking about all the stuff you have to get done and out of the way before you can go out to the greenhouse to play.

Grand National attached greenhouse

Or you could wake up in the morning and prepare breakfast to serve in the conservatory, with a long cup of coffee to relax with after breakfast.  If you have your catalogs handy, this whole scene could stretch itself out all morning.

Of course, if you still work for a living away from the house, this might be a weekend scenario, or an evening scenario with dinner.  Don't forget candlelight.

With the National Grand Hideaway greenhouses you can dream big and make it happen.  You can call the experts on greenhouses at 4seasongreenhouse.com to get some techinical information or any kind of help you need to make a decision.  You can talk to them again and again if needed, to help you reach your goal of owning a greenhouse of this caliber.

There are some advantages to having your Grand Hideaway greenhouse totally detached from the house.  The most obvious one is esthetics.  If your home is not situated to take and attached greenhouse, or if you are going to have hired help in the greenhouse, a detached model makes sense.  Also, you have a place to 'escape' ; to hide from the telephone (of course they are forbidden in a greenhouse!); and you can walk away from any messy operations you have going for awhile and come back later.  It also makes the perfect place to keep your worm factory and compost tumblers during the cold months, and store the extra composting materials in a bin next to them out of the wet weather.

Frankly, I think every gardener would love to have one of each.  Have a large freestanding greenhouse for the major operations, and use an attached greenhouse for conservatory style living for your whole family and houseplants.  They are so nice for entertaining in.  You can monitor and control the temperatures and moisture and light levels for comfort.  All you add are the comfortable seating chairs and a table and you are set for a lifetime of enjoyment.

HALLS

Variety is truly the spice of life.  Of course, it also makes it a wee bit more difficult to deside which greenhouse you want for your backyard.  The first thing you see with the Halls greenhouses is style.  Which is the best one for you?  Every greenhouse style has it's advantages, and so you pick out the features that are the most important to you.  Keep in mind, that as your gardening experience grows, your gardening needs may change (they usually do).  You will probably discover from experience down the line that you should have gotten this or that feature.  That is why we are here to help you consider your options.  If you are new to greenhouse gardening you may not realize some important features are so helpful or needed or desired.  Our Customer Service Staff can help you with most of that.  The part you have to do yourself is decide what style is right for your needs, desires, yard and home space.

Hexagonal greenhouse

If you are an urban or suburban gardener looking for an attractive and practical greenhouse addition to your yard, you will be able to find something in the choices Hall's offers.

If you are a romantic at heart but your yard is rather small, you might like to see the Hexagonal greenhouse sitting out back.

Just looking at the hexagonal will make your imagination run wild with ideas.  As a place to protect your tender hanging plants during an unseasonal storm or a place to sit in the fall.  Oh yes, you will probably start your seedlings here, and transplant here.  But it's compact size will make it easy to clean out for a candle light dinner for two on some special night.  Let the kids do the cooking while you two enjoy a glass of wine or tea.  I can see a tiny table draped with a white lacey tablecloth.  Dinner without flies or mosquitos is always nice!  How about a girls nite card game in there.

If you only have an apartment size yard, the Wall lean-to might be just enough to protect your potted plants and start new slips.

These little beauties are a wonderful and handy greenhouse experience close to the house and water.  They are easy to get to, easy to open up and work inside.  It measures 4 ft. wide, so it will be easy to find a spot to fit it into.  It is 2 ft. deep, with a sliding door in the front for maximum assessability.

It has been tested for snow load and has a 15 yr. warranty from the manufacturer.  The walls are 4mm twin wall opaque polycarbonate panels which will give very good insulation value and protect from sun scorch.  The frame is aluminum.  This is a nice, unpretentious lean-to with quality written all over it.

Halls offers 3 more greenhouse styles in the traditional shapes and sizes.  The extra wide double sliding doors on the Magnum are a real nice feature.Halls Magnum Greenhouse  It comes in green powdercoating option and has integral gutters, roof vents and just looks real handsome sitting in the sun.  You can see the entire choices of sizes available at 4seasongreenhouse.com.

While you are there take a look at the Optimum and Popular models as well.

The Optimum offers an upgrade from 4mm to 6mm twin wall polycarbonate insulated side walls and a dutch style split door.  If you have any pets that like to wander around with you, the dutch door comes in handy to prevent them from using your greenhouse to play or potty.

The Popular models have sliding doors, which require much less clearance space than standard swing doors.  If you think this is needed for your location, you can have it open in either direction.  There are, of course, many sizes to choose from in all models, so walk out to where you are thinking of placing a greenhouse and measure it out.  Lay or mark somehow where it will set, then walk back from it and try to visualize it there.  You may also want to view it from indoors if you can see it through windows.  Make sure it's placement will enhance your view or allow a good view if wanted.  Even is this age of remote thermometers and min-max thermometers, a good look can still tell you a lot.  See our Guide to Buying a Greenhouse and the locating information in it for more helpful information on placing a greenhouse.

Comparing features can be fun, but if you find it too difficult to decide on a model, talk to one of our experts in the 4seasongreenhouse.com Customer Service Department for help.  You may need more technical data to help you narrow down your choice.

JULIANA GREENHOUSES

The Juliana Basic 450 Greenhouse
The Juliana Basic 450 Greenhouse

The Juliana line of greenhouses is one of our most popular sellers for many reasons. There is a wide variety of styles and sizes to choose from, and they are an excellent value for your dollar. Being simple in design has advantages. It makes it easier for the manufacturer to include the time-worn features a greenhouse needs to keep a gardener happy in the long run.

The Juliana Basic greenhouse is the perfect greenhouse for the first time buyer or somebody with limited space in the garden. Even though its small, you can optimize the space with a range of shelving options. Ideal for growing pot plants such as herbs, The 4mm thick polycarbonate sheets not only keep the warmth in during the night, but also protects plants against the heat during the day. This means that the temperature is more even throughout the day in a greenhouse with polycarbonate that a greenhouse with glass and the yield is greater.

The Juliana Compact Plus 9.9 Greenhouse
The Juliana Compact Plus 9.9 Greenhouse

The Juliana Compact greenhouse is big enough to grow a variety of plants and have a little table and chairs inside the greenhouse. What a life changing experience, to be able to sit in a cozy greenhouse with a seed catalog and a cup of tea, while it's drizzling outdoors, and plan your next project. You can use it as your official gardening office, or bring in guests for a picnic lunch when everything is in bloom. What a treat for them! The Compact Plus is just a little wider (9-11 inches), but a few inches can make a huge difference in the options of how you use your space. It is a very good value for the dollar in this price bracket of greenhouses.

The Juliana Premium greenhouse kit is unique in both its design and construction. The extra space found in this greenhouse is a hallmark of its quality. The very strong profile makes this greenhouse look like a professional model. Note the 30 inch wide strong stable-type door with a lock. The stable (or Dutch) door allows you to increase circulation and prevent cold bottom drafts from entering the greenhouse which could affect your seedlings. It also keeps out the pets, children and pests.

The Juliana Premium 9.9 Greenhouse
The Juliana Premium 9.9 Greenhouse

The Premium has extra overall height which gives more space for the grower working in the greenhouse and plenty of room for hanging plants and tall plants to grow upward. You can put a small table and chair set inside and expand not only the growing season for your plants, but the season to enjoy being outdoors for yourself. Its available in millfinish, which is a gray aluminum color, or green powder coated aluminum profiles. Visualize your greenhouse where you want to put it, full of plants, and picture the colors of the frame there. It may make it a little easier to decide which greenhouse you want.

The Gardener series greenhouses are designed to meet the needs of market farmers, schools, as well as avid plant lovers. They make an ideal outdoor school with plenty of room for hands-on activities. The larger sizes allow you to divide your grenhouse into rooms with different climates, making it easy to grow orchids and cacti, along with everything else you want to grow. They are a great place to 'hang out'.

The Gardener greenhouses are designed to meet the needs of many uses. With the ability to divide your greenhouse into different 'rooms', you might want to put a hydroponic system in one room, and retain the rest for traditional greenhouse activities. The high side walls allow room for plenty of plant growth for vines and climbers like tomatoes and cukes. You can put hanging plants in it and really maximize all the space. Or, if you have a lot of acreage to plant, having different rooms allows you to divide up seedlings at different stages of growth to keep planting times more organized. If you're not sure what you want to put in your greenhouse, having the space to divide the climate controls for variety in growing is a creative way to use a greenhouse. This is something to look for if you want to plant a winter garden inside your greenhouse, as not everything will want to be kept warm.

The Juliana Gardener 1800 Greenhouse
The Juliana Gardener 1800 Greenhouse

The double wide sliding doors allow easy access for plant wagons or wheelbarrows and the sliding action keeps the door from being blown back onto you while you go in and out. Extra width in the 1800 model means lots of bench space for deep seedling trays. You can put Dutch doors on one side for ventilation and draft protection. The doors are lockable for security.

Riga "The Onion"

The Riga Onion Greenhouse
The Riga Onion Greenhouse

The Onion's design gives this greenhouse great strength and superior ventilation. It naturally allows snow to slide right off, which makes it a great choice for the harsh winter climate zones.

The panels are polycarbonate (the wonder material of most greenhouses). The frame is aluminum, which is totally maintenance free. Combined, it means a very good quality greenhouse for long life and easy to live with.

This greenhouse is designed and manufactured in Germany by a company that makes commercial greenhouses, so they incorporate some of the bigger concepts into a hobby greenhouse that gives you more for your money. The frames are permanently attached to each other, so it won't loosen over time due to wind pressure. Where I live on the plains, we major in wind pressure. The Riga has been tested against winds up to 100 miles per hour and has never been blown away, (as long as it is properly anchored to the ground). Since it has no eaves, snow and leaves and sand do not collect along the ridges, and you have no clean out to do. The polycarbonate panels on the roof and sides is 8mm thick and the end walls are 10mm thick. This is standard with the Riga Onion, which is why it is so perfect for the colder weather. Each greenhouse comes with windows and roof vents, providing excellent ventilation.

Riga Strength
Vent
Heavy-Duty Opener
Heavy Duty Shelving

The lockable door is Dutch (barn) style, which gives added ventilation by leaving the top open, and you can still keep the cats out of the greenhouse with the bottom closed. At 30" wide it will accomodate a wheelbarrow or wagon. There is an oversized hinged rear wall window (42"h x 30" w), so you get complete cross ventilation. The roof vents are 24" deep x 40" wide.

Consider the air patterns at your place to decide how to position your Riga. If you wish to avoid too much wind, position the Riga sides against the usual air flow. In my area, the cold winter storms come from the NE, but the summer winds blow from the SW. If you are going to use your greenhouse in the winter, avoid your winter storm flows blowing right through your greenhouse by angling the side walls against them.

The Riga is by far the strongest greenhouse in it's price bracket. It comes with a Assembly DVD, and they do offer the ground anchor system and base kit. It has a 15 year warranty on the frame and 10 years on the panels.

There is enough insulation factor to grow year round in a Riga. It comes in 5 different sizes, and is a tall 6'11" at the peak, which makes it more comfortable to work in. There is no unusable space in a Riga.

The Riga offers extension kits in case you want to enlarge it later. They also offer metal hooks to put into the ridge pole for hanging lights, plants, fans, heaters, jackets, etc. To me, they are essential. They also have designed shelf kits to fit inside and trays for them. All these extras will make your greenhouse experience much easier and more fun. Look for the Deluxe package for a money saving deal. And you can bump up the insulation value with 16 mm triple wall polycarbonate panels in the XL models.

The Riga is definately worth taking a look at if you get freezes in your area. Visit 4seasongreenhouse.com for more details and ordering.

All you will need to do now is choose which size you want. My personal opinion is that if you are going to set up one of these, you may as well get a bigger one than you first thought you needed, because you will probably want a bigger on in the future, and this will save you a lot of trouble and work in the long run. Happy Greenhouse growing!

ENTHUSIAST GREENHOUSE

Enthusiast
The Enthusiast Hobby Greenhouse

The remarkable thing about the Enthusiast Hobby greenhouse is the 'SnapGlas' panels. They have designed the panels out of clear ploycarbonate to make it easy to assemble the greenhouse. It just pops into the frame work, so it's quicker and uses less parts than most kits. The panels are UV coated so the sun won't break them down, and are virtually unbreakable.

The frames are made of rigid polycarbonate and aluminum. Being lightweight materials, they are easier to handle when assembling.

It comes in the basic 6'x8' size, with 4' extensions that can be inserted to enlarge it later if you decide you need more space. The Enthusiast comes with everything you need to get started using a greenhouse. The extensions come with the parts to extend the base along with the walls and each extension also has a vent.

Inside the EnthusiastWith this greenhouse, you will get 2 roof vents, a hinged door and the base kit with anchors. If you live in very warm or damp climate, this is the perfect winter gardening greenhouse. If you are using it in the summer and get a lot of sun, you will want a shade cloth to put either over or inside the greenhouse. If you have the occasional cold snap in the winter, purchase the model with the heater kit so you won't lose your plants.

With this model you can start out small with a small price tag, and enlarge little by little without it costing a lot or starting over. It has a traditional barn shape that looks good with just about any home style. To view the size and price details on our website click here.

EasyStart Greenhouse

Easy Start 4'x6'
The Easy Start 4'x6' Greenhouse

The EasyStart greenhouse comes in several sizes; 4'x6'; 4'x6'lean-to style; 6'x6'; 6'x8'. These sizes are perfect for extending the season. There is plenty of room to start your seeds early, and bring in potted plants just before the frosts hit. You can use the upper area to hang planters full of flowers or vegetables, or trellises in a raised bed to get more out of your greenhouse space. If you do not need a huge greenhouse, but still want all the features the larger and commercial types offer, the EasyStart greenhouses may be just what you are looking for. They are sized to fit into just about any yard without consuming all of it.

You can use a small greenhouse like these to protect and babysit your house plants while you are away from home on a vacation. Just add a mister system or automated waterer that we sell, and you can be worry free while on the run. You won't need to give the neighbor kid a key to your house to do the watering.

They are also perfect for doing those dirty jobs. like re-potting planters, moving up houseplants, etc. Or if you have a sorry looking plant and want to isolate it for awhile, the EasyStart Greenhouse is the perfect place to do it.

You can do everything in an EasyStart Greenhouse that you would do in a larger, more expensive greenhouse. You can get the fold away shelving, so you can utilize the greenhouse space better when you don't need shelves for seedlings. You can add a automated window opener that is temperature sensitive, so even if you are at the office, the window will open if it gets too warm. They make automated openers for the louvred windows as well.

We recommend you get an anchor system and base kit. If you live in hot climate, you will want a shade cloth for the warmer month, and maybe a mister system to help cool things down a bit.

Sometimes, having a smaller space enables a person to feel they can tackle a job or project without feeling overwhelmed by the enormity of the job. It breaks it down to managable size. Then you can say to yourself, "I can do that!"

SOLEXX Greenhouses

The Solexx Early Bloomer Greenhouse
The Solexx Early Bloomer Greenhouse

You may feel like you are entering a sciencific twilight zone when you enter a Solexx Greenhouse. A different world made just for the plants. If you have ever wondered if you could grow your own coffee beans, yes, you can. A Solexx greenhouse creates the perfect environment for growing coffee bean trees, and it's not hard to do. But, outside of that concept is the wider world of all the vegetables and flowers a person could want.

The Solexx Greenhouses are very distinct in the opague ployehtylene panels and their rounded shape, although traditional shapes are also available, as well as lean-to's.

Solexx knows the way to build a greenhouse to get the best results in your plants. The opaque twin walls create a diffuse light inside that is actually light rays that are split and redirected, enabling the light to reach into every corner of the greenhouse and around every plant. This eliminates any shadow spots that can occur in ordinary greenhouses. If you are looking for even growth, increased flower production and overall health in your plants, this greenhouse environment will give you that. The greenhouses peak at 8'9", so there is plenty of overhead space which is very nice for hanging plants and even small trees.

Another aspect of Solexx greenhouses is that you do not have to have a foundation. You will need a level place for it, and you will want to use some tie-downs to steady it. With no foundation your Solexx greenhouse is moveable. The frames are solid and sturdy enough, yet lightweight enough that one person on each corner can move even a larger sized greenhouse if necessary. If you plan for mobility to cover your garden beds, you may want to plan for a few smaller ones rather than one huge one to make it easier to move them. Of course, you can install the Solexx greenhouses on a foundation for permanence if you wish to.

The diffuse light inside the Solexx Greenhouse makes an ideal place for specialty plants, for plant nurseries, and year round gardening. They also make a very nice, draft free place to keep birds, start chicks, over-winter tender outdoor plants, clean and repot your houseplants, etc.

You can upgrade your panel choice to 5mm thickness, which will make it that much easier to keep it warm in the high altitude and heavy snow areas. The frames are heavy duty composite material, the same material used to build bridges. The materials throughout are maintenance free and virtually unbreakable.

The Solexx Conservatory Greenhouse
The Solexx Conservatory Greenhouse

The Solexx Conservatory styles come in 3 basic sizes:

They are 16' wide and have 2 front entry doors. This configuration allows much more usable floor space, work flow, ease of entry and is great for customer movement if you are a retailer. It is so versatile, and with a heigth of 9'6", it will take on any use you can think of. Hanging rods run the entire depth of the greenhouse. You have plenty of bench space with side benches that run the depth of the house, and a 5' wide double tiered bench frame in the center. For every 8' of depth you have 2 Easy-Flow Louvre air vents for air circulation and 30 linear feet of hanging rods space.

The Solexx Garden Master Greenhouse
The Solexx Garden Master Greenhouse

The Garden Master series comes in sizes:

This series is in the traditional European style of straigt side walls that are 6'6' high and a 8'9" high peaked roof. It has one wide door in the front wall that is hinged. The 2 full length, 29" deep bench frames are built in, but the benches themselves are sold seperately. This allows you the option of not having benches if you are growing from the ground up. There are two full length hanging rods that will hold up to 200 pds of distributed weight.

The Solexx greenhouses have a sturdy built-in base, so you don't need a foundation, but tie-downs are recommended. You don't want to put a Solexx together when the temperatures are reaching to 95* or more, as you could see some buckling in the panels when the weather cools. It doesn't hurt the function of the greenhouse, but it doesn't look good. All Solexx greenhouses come with a large louvred vent and strong, easy to assemble steel fittings (joints). All you have to do is insert the pre-cut, color-coded frame pieces and tighten down the eye bolts.

There are some options available for the Solexx Greenhouses, such as Solexx Base Vents that are installed in the lower wall areas to increase air flow and Solexx 8" Circulating Fans, being a very essential part of keeping the air moving to insure plant health.

Polycarbonate Solexx Assembly
Hanging on a Solexx Sitting on a Solexx

Solexx also makes the Harvester, a lean-to model that has a wall on the back side, so you can place it up against a fence or trellising and still have a full greenhouse effect inside. The door is on the flat wall end. The Harvesters are 8' feet deep and come in lengths of 8,12,16 & 24'. Like the other models, it has built-in bench frames on 2 sides that allows you to utilize every square inch of interior space. A double tiered bench space on one side, and a single bench space on the other. The benches are steel reinforced for long lasting strength. You can choose the 3.5 mm or 5mm thickness of twin-wall panels.

If you are looking for a highly functional greenhouse in a smaller size, consider the Early Bloomer model. It's a flower lover's best friend for producing quick, even growth and blooms. It has two easy to reach hanging plant rods overhead running the full length, a large 19"x30" vent, and all the same great features of all the Solexx greenhouse styles in a slightly smaller package and price. The size is 8'x8'x6'3" High.

Then there is the Solexx Gardener's Oasis greenhouse series. The difference between this series and the Early Bloomer series is simply a taller 8' heigth.

No matter which model or series you choose from, you will get the full gammet of very distinctive Solexx features, and enjoy growing in them for a very long time.

Sunshine Gardenhouse

The Sunshine Mt. Hood Gardenhouse 6'x12'
The Sunshine Mt. Hood Gardenhouse 6'x12'

This line of greenhouses has a different way of looking at being a greenhouse. First of all, they are called gardenhouses. But that does not limit thier usage to just gardening, although there is plenty in that catagory to keep any gardener happy.

The most striking thing about the Sunshine line is it's profile. It uses all natural high grade redwood lumber for the frames. Natural wood is eco-friendly, a renewable resourse, and just plain looks wonderful in any backyard setting. The use of wood enables the Sunshines to have high peaked roofs. The Mt. Hood tops off at 8'4"! And the Mt. Rainier peaks out at a whopping 10' high. Enough room for overwintering trees that are frost sensitive. The extra height is very comfortable to work in, and gives lots of room for some hanging planters. They come with 4.5 twin wall polycarbonate panels for great insulation value and strength. The panels have a slight opaqueness to them that is highly desirable, especially if your area gets a lot of sun or at higher elevations.

If you check out the different sizes and options available in each model you will find a greenhouse to fit everyones' needs and wants.

The Sunshine Patio Gardenhouse is a lean-to that can go up against the house or garage or any wall, and it has unique front opening doors that open the entire area for easier access. They also have the traditional side door type lean to in case you need your access on the end.

The Sunshine Gardenhouse line is manufactured in the Pacific Northwest at Longview, WA. Longview is a lumber town on the coast. It's only natural that it would produce one of the handsomest greenhouses offered, and it's made in America.

San Bernardino Greenhouses

The Riverside 11'x12' Redwood Greenhouse
The Riverside 11'x12' Redwood Greenhouse

The San Bernardino is truly an American greenhouse. Plenty of choices and made in America. The other thing that makes this line of greenhouses special, is the speed of putting them together.

These are very strong greenhouses. You have a choice of all natural premiun redwood or aluminum for the frame.

Redwood is resistant to weather, insects, decay and should last a lifetime with no special treatment. Made entirely of selected kiln dried Redwood and are bolted together for strength and stability. Redwoood will not require painting, will not rust, corrode or crack and is unaffected by changes in temperature. They use rust resistant galvanized hardware. The double wall model has extra framing for greater strength. San Bernadino greenhouses have withstood ice, snow and even hurricane Hugo.

The heavy-duty Exclusive Insalume frame is different from aluminum framing in other brands. The 8mm double wall polycarbonate panels slip into channels creating three dead air spaces for a highly insulated frame. The frames are entirely bolted together with 16 guage steel plates creating the strongest greenhouse available. There are no bar caps, no gaskets, no metal spring clips. Includes rafter ties for extra strength. Frames come in mill finish or bronze powdercoat finish.

Both the Redwood and the Insalume frame greenhouses are the easiest greenhouses to put together. The panels on the Insalume just slide into the framing. The deluxe model redwood frame greenhouse comes to you in sections or modules completely finished by skilled craftsmen at the factory. These finished panels are quick and easy to put together using all bolt construction methods, making it the strongest greenhouse on the market. Putting a San Bernardino Lean-To addition onto your home will completely change the way you use your home.
