How do you use, or plan to use, your greenhouse?:

What Obama will mean to us

FarmAccording to Obama's official web site the Obama administration has a set of priorities to work on for the farming communities.

  • It will move toward implementing the Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) act so that American producers can distinguish their products from imported ones.
  • On organic and local production; the new administration will take steps to promote organic farm production, including helping organic farmers "afford to certify their crops and reform crop insurance to not penalize organic farmers." In addition, they will "promote regional food systems".
  • It will "establish a new program to identify and train the next generation of farmers and make it easier for new farmers to afford their first farm."
  • It will also boost incentives for landowners to "conduct sustainable agriculture and protect wetlands, grasslands, and forests."

Not too shabby for a democrat!

YEAH, but...

Most of these items are already in place, put into place by Congress in the last 2 years.  Isn't is wonderful what a President, who isn't even in office yet, will take credit for.  Not much is gonna change unless Congress makes it happen, or allows it to happen, which is why election of Congressmen is so much more important than the presidential election.  They tend to stay around longer, and have more grass roots power.  Pay close attention to which of the dingbats you elect and how they vote while in office.

Democrat , Republican or Independent

Democrat, Republican or Independent, it is certaintly time to support the farmers big and small and promote healthy American grown food for our citizens. I hope that the above statement set forth by the President Elect is more than just hopeful words on a statement. All American farmers and growers need to know that our country stands behind their hard work and contributions to the health and well being of our people and our livestock.

And let us not forget the tons of grains and rice we ship to nations all over the world to help feed and care for those who do not have the means to do so on their own. We are a great Nation and our greatness stems from the great farmers and ranchers, big and small growers, large rural growers and small community gardeners in the cities.

Wall Street and Banks may hold the money of America, but it is the farmers and the ranchers who hold the Heart of America. It would be a good thing if the new administration took the time to check the pulse of that heart and make sure that heart beat is strong and able to continue to care for this Nation and across the world.

We shall watch and see if the new administration does what is declared. It is my firm hope that I can report back that indeed they have.

Congratulations President Elect!
