Salads to get new Dressing-Radiation!

That is the title of a CBS news report dated Aug. 21. It goes on to say that we have been eating irradiated meat, especially ground beef, for years.  Now they want to irradiate produce to kill Ecoli germs.  They say it is completely safe and leaves no residue on the produce, but irradiating produce does not kill viruses.  And of course, it does NOT address the source of the problem.  Look for it to be applied to spinach and salad greens first. The food is zapped with high-frequency radiation about 15 million times that of a single chest x-ray, reports Ben Tracy, CBS correspondent.  Wow!  I think I am going to grow my own lettuce, even in the off-season. You will find me in my greenhouse after this blog!

Salad with your Beef?

Here is the CBS report in case you want to read it for yourself. Knowing this is happening to our beef as well as now our salad makings makes me feel a lot better buying my beef from Ranch Foods Direct. Their meat products are totally organic, priced higher but you can taste the difference and now with this new radiation treatment added to the salad produce I think my growing season has just extended like Becky's. And just maybe I might take up canning vegtables again. Of all the ancient food laws passed down through cultures and religions I do not recall radiation as a solution to health practice.

What next, instead of washing your hands are we going to have radiation stations to stick your hands into to kill off any contaminations you may pick up at public places? When did common sense and ethical work practices leave the American culture? I know you readers of this Blog have maintained your ability to govern yourselves and what and how you feed your family. The FDA is putting a bandaide effect on the real problem of them not doing their job we pay them for, which is to check food products for public saftey. It is sad to think that kids will eat a product that now has a shelf life never intended by Nature and it will be generations before science will have a true knowledge of the effects of radiated foods on our childrens growth and health.

For me, raising my own meat and vegtables just got a new meaning. I think I will post a sign in my kitchen, "No radiated food allowed... and wash your hands please!"
