worms have baby nurseries
My sister has a worm factory and was telling me today that she has noticed that the worms have set aside one whole tray of the factory to hold their eggs and little hatchlings in. This tray may have one or two adults(babysitters?) but the rest is eggs and baby worms. The other adults can be found in the other trays busy doing what worms do, and when the eggs hatch they have material to eat since the bedding is only 3/4 decomposed. I thought it was interesting that even the lowly worms have a culture that sets aside a protected area for their offspring. It takes owning a wormfactory bin to have seen such a thing, but what a great way to teach our children about parts of nature and its culture that we normally would not see!
