Mushroom or fungi in a tree. What is it?

This recently appeared at my uncle's yard in one of the trees, at the base. (See picture) Is it bad for animals? Deers and cats are usually around the yard and is probably the first concern. Is it contagious to ther trees?

Maybe. Some mushrooms

Maybe. Some mushrooms contains poison which are not good to animals.
